Gordon Merry gave an update on the 2007 HMEP Grant progress. He recently met with the contractors and Doug Sheils who will produce and MC the 8 to 10 minute film. If anyone wishes to participate, please let Gordon know.
Gordon spoke regarding two FEMA Programs; 1) Temporary Emergency Power Program, a project of the US Army Corp of Engineers and the WV Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, for both Cabell and Wayne Counties. A preplanning program that would go into effect if there was a disaster where emergency power was lost, they would come in and hook the facility up with power. There are forms that need to be filled out and if anyone is interested, they can contact Gordon or Sharon. 2) Disaster Commodity Distribution Program for distribution planning; for both Cabell and Wayne Counties. If a disaster happened there is a need to plan where you would place disaster relief needs. The concept came from hurricane preparedness, but it could be adapted to all-hazards planning.
Gordon announced that the 13th Annual LEPC/SERC Conference would be held at the Embassy Suites, Charleston, WV on September 24, 25, & 26, 2007.
Gordon talked about the Emmons fire and reported the biggest hurdle was to get Pastoral Care on scene. This issue has been addressed and contacts have been made with agencies that will be willing to come in a situation where needed. Stephanie Smith of Prestera said they have two teams of counselors on call.
